The 3 Men Crucified
( Pastor Stephen Chua, 29th. March 2002 - Good Friday )
Scripture Verses :
Isa.53:4-10
Lke.23:32-49
Summary :
The first criminal:
-he died with sin in him & on him
-he could not see the difference between
him & Christ; thinking He was a criminal as well
-he was disappointed with Christ since He would not free them from the cross
-it stemmed from his unbelief
-he was angry with Christ & rebelled against God
The second criminal:
-he originally mocked Christ
-but after hearing Christ's first words, he began to look inward
-he began to be honest with God & himself
-he realised that he & the other criminal were to blame for their fate
-he recognized that he could not improve his lot
-he recognized that he was flawed & sinful
-he recogized that the man hanging in the middle was radically different
-He had done nothing wrong to deserve what he got
-the second criminal reached out to Christ for grace & mercy
-thus he died with sin in him but not on him
-he was forgiven & set free
The third man:
-he had no sin in Him but He took sin upon Him
-salvation is complete because of what He did
-the Author of life commanded death to take Him
-He was the middleman on the cross as well as our middleman between us & God
