Praying For Salvation
( Pastor Stephen Chua, 30th. April 2006 )

Scripture Verses :

2 Corinthians 4: 3-6, 1 Timothy 2: 3-4, Acts 26: 14-18 and Ephesians 1: 18.

Summary :

How do we pray effective prayers for the salvation of our loved ones who
have yet to believe and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal
Saviour and Lord?

I. Pray for removal of spiritual blindness, 2 Cor. 4: 4, Eph. 1: 18
and Acts 26: 18

The Apostle Paul states that if the gospel of Christ is hidden,
it is hidden from those who are perishing or unbelieving, 2 Cor. 4: 3.
How is the gospel hidden from them? Satan, the god of this
age, has blinded their minds or eyes. Satan has put a veil
over their minds and spiritual eyes, 2 Cor. 4: 3. It is a state
of helpless blindness or darkness over their minds. God told
Saul at the point of his salvation that He had sent him to
open the eyes of the Gentiles, to turn them from darkness to
light, Acts 26: 18. As a result of spiritual blindness and
darkness over their mind they cannot see the light of the
gospel of the glory of Christ, 2 Cor. 4: 4.

Pray in Jesus Christ’ name for the removal of spiritual blindness
and removal of darkness of mind in the lives of unbelieving loved ones,
1 John 3: 8. Remember, there is wonderful working power in Jesus’ name,
Phil. 2: 9.

II. Pray for reception of increasing amount of light to come into
their lives, 2 Cor. 4: 4, Eph. 1:18 and Acts 26: 18
Unbelievers need to turn from darkness to light. Once their
spiritual sight and understanding has opened they need to
continue to receive the light of God’s truth into their lives.
Paul prayed that the Holy Spirit would illuminate or open the
eyes of believers so that might appreciate the hope of their
calling and the riches of His glorious inheritance in the
saints, Eph. 1: 18. Paul went on to say that it is God who has
shone into Christians’ hearts to give us the light of the
knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ, 2 Cor. 4: 6.

Without the increasing amount of light coming into believers’
mind and life we will not grow in Him.

III. Pray for repentance from sins to come upon them, Acts 26:
18, John 16: 8-11

Repentance is a gift from God, Rom. 2: 4. The hardened and
impenitent human heart will only attract more and more of
God’s wrath upon him, Rom. 2: 5. Hence it is essential that
sinners are brought to the place of repentance from their sins.
Many a time sinners are held under the power and bondage
of sins in their lives, Rom. 1: 24, 26 and 28. On their own
they cannot be set free from them. God hands them over to
their sins, Rom. 1: 24, 26 and 28.
Pray that the Holy Spirit will convict them of sins in their
lives so that they can repent from them, John 16: 8 and 9.
Pray seriously in Jesus Christ’s name that God will break
whatever sinful habits, passions and bondages that are present
in unbelievers’ life. Unbelief is also a sin – a sin of the mind.

Conclusion: Prayer for the salvation of loved ones who are still unbelievers
involves intense spiritual warfare and prevailing petition
before our heavenly Father.

Thot: How much do you love your unsaved loved ones? It can be determined
by how much and intense you pray for their salvation!
